Dear [Contact Name],
I would like you to join me in a fundraising effort to help find a cure for the most common neurodegenerative disease affecting children – Juvenile Batten Disease. I will be participating in A Cure in the Nick of Time fundraising event on September 29th which is a Run / Walk around Duxbury Bay to raise money for research efforts supported by the Beyond Batten Disease Foundation (BBDF).
This is an incredibly exciting time for research in Juvenile Batten disease (JBD). Advances in our understanding of the disease along with new, innovative technologies like gene therapy and promising drug discoveries, give us hope that treatment is on the horizon. A new therapeutic drug compound treatment discovered by BBDF funded research has been shown to clear the precipitating cellular waste from the brain and decrease chronic brain inflammation. This treatment is expected to be available for adults with JBD by the end of this year with compassionate use through the FDA’s Expanded Access Program for Investigational Drugs. We hope that this research will help design treatments to counteract this and other human diseases with a pathological storage component, such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and hopefully ameliorate the symptoms or reduce the progression of the disease for those affected.
This fundraiser is inspired by a remarkable young man, Nicholas Curran. Nick will turn 27 this coming December and is fighting every day to keep his legs moving and his speech flowing. In the last few years, he has had increased seizures, a heightened reliance on a walker/wheelchair, and cognitive impairment. Nick has touched so many hearts with his ability to remain selfless, strong, positive, and full of laughter despite all his hardships. The Curran family is desperately searching for a treatment to provide this exceptional person with a fuller, longer life.
My goal is to raise $[insert personal fundraising goal] to help fight Batten disease. I am asking for your support. Please join us in this fight against Batten disease by making a tax-deductible donation to bring these research projects and clinical trials to fruition. Any donation you could make would be greatly appreciated. Visit my fundraising Web page at [Enter Personal Web Page] to learn more and make a contribution.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
Today there is no known treatment or cure for Batten disease, but with your help there is hope.
